Common questions

How do I add the lock screen widget?

On iPhone, long-press the lock screen, tap Customize, then Lock Screen, then tap a widget slot below the clock. Choose Dawnstone from the widget list. The lock screen widget is a Pro feature. On Android, touch and hold an empty spot on your home screen, tap Widgets, then drag Dawnstone onto the home screen (exact steps vary by phone). The small widget is free; larger sizes are part of Pro.

How do I cancel my Pro subscription?

In the Dawnstone app, open Settings and tap Manage Subscription. This deep-links to the iOS Settings page where you can cancel or change your plan. Cancellation takes effect at the end of your current billing period. On Android, open the Google Play Store app, tap your profile icon, then Payments & subscriptions, then Subscriptions, choose Dawnstone, and tap Cancel subscription. The subscription link in Dawnstone's Settings opens the same page.

I cancelled but I still have Pro access.

That's expected. Cancelling means “don't renew next time.” You keep Pro access until your current period ends. If you want an immediate refund, Apple handles refunds at reportaproblem.apple.com. Google Play subscriptions work the same way; for refunds, see the next answer.

How do I get a refund?

App Store purchases are handled by Apple, so refunds go through Apple — we can't process them directly. Request one at reportaproblem.apple.com (sign in, find Dawnstone, then Request a Refund), or on your iPhone: open Settings, tap your name, then Media & Purchases, then Purchase History, tap Dawnstone, and choose Report a Problem. Apple reviews each request. Lifetime is a one-time purchase with nothing to cancel — the same refund path applies within Apple's refund window. Google Play purchases are refunded by Google under Google Play's refund policies: request one from your order history at play.google.com/store/account/orderhistory or see support.google.com/googleplay/answer/2479637. If Google directs you to the developer, email us.

The trial says 7 days but I want longer.

The 7-day trial is a fixed introductory offer per Apple ID. If you need more time to decide, the Monthly option is a low-risk way to evaluate Pro for a month. On Google Play, a free trial is offered only when the paywall shows it, and Google Play decides who is eligible.

Can I get Pro on more than one device?

Yes. Pro is tied to your Apple ID, so all your iPhones, iPads, and Macs signed in with the same Apple ID share Pro. All Pro plans (Monthly, Annual, and Lifetime) also support Family Sharing, so you can share Pro with the people in your Family Sharing group. On Android, Pro is tied to the Google account you bought it with: install Dawnstone on another Android device signed in to that account and Pro is restored from Google Play. App Store and Google Play purchases are separate and do not carry over between Apple and Android devices.

Where do the texts come from?

We use public-domain 19th-century translations of Marcus Aurelius, Seneca, and Epictetus (George Long, Gummere, and others), then carefully modernize them into shorter forms while preserving the original wording for the Pro Origin tier.

Can I request a card or report a typo?

Yes, email us. Cards are updated periodically. We can't guarantee inclusion of suggested passages but we read them all.

Is there an Android version?

Yes. Dawnstone is available on Google Play: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=app.dawnstone.android

Bug reports

If something isn't working, the most helpful info to include is: iOS version, iPhone model, what you tried, and what happened instead. Screenshots help. On Android, include your Android version and phone model instead.
